All pictures up to this point were taken with my trust Olympus D390. I bought it specifically for the Toronto Trip in 2003, and it has served me well since then. On the last trip though, I lost 3 rather nice pictures, and the rest were rather grainy and garbled on the screen. They look fine as full-size, like here, but it was impossible to tell which pictures they were from a thumbnail. So, I asked around a bit, and got a "new" camera from my cousin for a pretty fair price. It's a Fuji Finepix S7000, which is a MAJOR step up from my last P-n-S (point n shoot) digital. Most pictures from now on will be taken with the S7000.

My New camera arrived the Friday morning I was planning on going to Joanne's house, while doing some railfanning on the way, so I took the new camera with me. A bit of a learning curve, to be sure, but I think I got good results. Found the hotbox detector (first time I ever looked, really), and got a couple pictures of it for reference sake...they're the first two pictures. VIA #15 with 6419 rolled through a minute late, producing the third picture in the set. The shutter button is much more sensitive on the new camera! I Drove to Truro/Onslow and set up to catch the 4th shot of #15 as it crossed a bridge. Another realization...this camera is more sensitive to light differences, as well. Called VIA and found #14 was due in about 15 minutes behind schedule, so I went to grab some food, and then drove back with Peter to the same location. Just got done my foot-long sub as the headlights of #14 appeared over the hill a mile or two away. Got out, and ran down a hill into a swamp to get this shot. Then, got a going away shot...the shutter "reloads" much faster with this camera, allowing such shots. Drove to Jo's, spent the night, and came home Saturday. Caught #121 in Lantz, and then went to WJ to see if anything was there. Found some interesting MOW equipment...this is used to clear the Right-of-Way of bush and scrub.

I made the trip to Elmsdale to catch up with Andrew Underwood, an old friend and fellow model railroader. He had to work, and thus, had to cancel our plans to railfan together. Instead, I went to the Shell where he worked, and we shot the breeze for a while. I got some pictures and made some discoveries about my new camera. It's a LOT more sensitive to light, thus the dark shot of #15 on the bridge. After leaving Underwood's workplace, we realized #14 was right behind us...damn...so we booted for Bedford Quarry. We arrived about 2 minutes in front of it, and I got that shot. After supper, we went to Birch Cove to see #121 leave, and I tried the nightshot on my Digital Camera.

Late CN120 in Windsor Junction VIA #14 in Rockingham VIA #14's Park Car Rock Yard Job HOT Switcher

After a very successful day of railfanning the WHRC yesterday, when I got home and heard that both CN120 and CN148 were late, I had to take the opportunity to run into Halifax and see if I couldn't see some daylight Intermodal. And see it I did! Starting with CN148 through WJ eastbound at about 9:45AM (First 3 shots), followed by the westbound CN701W Gypsum Train from Wrights Cove at about 9:50 (Next Two), meeting CN120 in Kinsac. CN120 appeared in WJ traveling Eastbound at roughly 10:15AM (Next Shot). I caught VIA #15 in the area between Bedford and Bedford Quarry, but only on video (no still shots). Caught VIA #14 in Rockingham yard at 3:55PM, the Rock Yard Switcher shortly there after, then the HOT Switcher just after that. A Pretty productive day, all in all.
